Everywhere I look, there I am|Portraits by the artist/model/photographer Sam Margevicius —————————————————————————
IN CONVERSATION|SAMUEL MARGEVICIUS
Name|Samuel Tomas Margevicius
Hometown|Palo Alto, California
How did you get discovered?
I approached Jayson Keeling, a friend and artist (before he was my friend), because I heard him talking about photography, in Strand Bookstore. I asked if I could assist him, he said "no" and that he is a fine artist now but that I should conisder modeling. He told me I should meet Gaspard at ReQuest and that was that...
What were you doing prior to modeling?
I've been taking lots of photographs, drawing, writing, skateboarding, hanging out with friends and meeting strangers!
People would be surprised to know that I...
try to be honest and transparent. I speak Spanish, does that count?
What's your latest obsession?
Coffee and cigarettes. I am really into natural light in my apartment and acting! I acted through elementary, middle, high school and college. I already have a role waiting for me to act. Writer/director Haley Giles wrote it, it is called "Bless Her Little Heart". She is just looking for funding at the moment. In the screenplay, I played a dead rock star.
Your most prize possession?
My Milk Studio pens (I work there part time), my Yashica 35 GSM camera, my Warriors Of Radness short shorts (through a job casted by JTC) I pretty much wear them everyday! There is so much soul to them—The first time I washed the shorts, I was in California at the Element/YMCA Skate Camp. I jumped into the lake, when I got out my legs quickly turned blue so now the shorts have this purple washed out look—it's fucking fantastic!
Growing up, who did you look up to as your hero?
I have a lot heroes, in sports, I want to be A-Rod—I drew a picture of him that ran in the San Francisco for Kids. In skating, I want to be either Mark Appleyard or Shane Cross. In acting, I wanted to be Leonardo DiCaprio in Titantic period, it was my wish to be Jack Dawson in Titantic!
When is the last time you said, "I Love You" to someone?
To my parents yesterday!
Three adjectives that best describes you:
Free, present, party girl
Describe your personal style:
I like to wear things non stop till I am so bored of them. I like my clothes to tell you where I've been. As Forest Gump said in the film, "You can tell a lot about a person by their shoes...where they have been, what they've done."
Your favorite place you have travel to:
So many great traveling memories...skate camp in California in the summer, skating at Plaza Houssay in Buenos Aires, Argentina and surfing Huntington Beach with Garrett and swimming in the reservoir on mushrooms with Tyler!
Your favorite film and scene from the film:
Dead Man directed Jim Jarmusch Scene: "Do you have any tobacco?" That whole movie with all the Neil Young noise. The best scene is gotta be Bill's story about Pai Mei killing the monk who did not return his "slightest of nods" is so relevant to me right now—I am all about the slight, or over exaggerated nod.
Your favorite sport:
I don't really like sports...
Sport: Brazil soccer
Player: Jeremy Lin—He goes to my school and I've photographed him!
If there's a destination or item you would recommend us to check out or visit about your native country/city or town, what would you recommend?
Palo Alto, California—I recommend you smoke a joint around Stanford—go to the cactus garden, Leland Standford Jr. Grave—and go into the intense energy of the library and try not to burst out laughing!
Favorite moment in modeling:
My recent editorial shoot last week for The Ground Magazine. I got to wear a dress in the editorial, smoking cigarettes and piss in front of everyone! Very Kurt Cobain!
Your favorite recording artist/song:
I Feel Just Like A Child by Devandra Banhart—He is a genius!
Your wish for the remaining months to 2012?
Working at events at Milk studios, photographed more great artists and getting a grant possibly from Guggenheim museum!
