MISTER FANTASTIC|SIMON JAMES

————————————————————
IN CONVERSATION|SIMON JAMES

Name|Simon Purchase James
Age|20
Hometown|Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

How did you get discovered?
My agent at ReQuest, Karen Long scouted me outside of Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. At the time, I was living and working on the tall ship A.J. Meerwald, a 115 feet schooner. We were docked at Pennsylvania Landing for the Philadelphia Sea Port Festival.
What were you doing prior to modeling?
I was working on the A.J. Meerwald  as a deckhand/educator. The ship is an education platform for the Bayshore Center at Bivalve, an organization focused on motivating people to take care of the environment, the history and culture of New Jersey's Bayshore region through education, preservation and example. We took school groups and the general public out for day sails and taught about environmental issues, sailing and history.
People would be surprised to know that I...
was 1o years old when I first sang at Carnegie Hall. It was the American premiere of Paul McCartney's Ecce Cor Meum
What's your latest obsession?
Cooking. I've just begun learning to cook and I am very proud of a few dishes I have made and invented, cranberry apple stuffed pork chops, butternut squash and black bean burritos and other simple dishes.
Your most prize possession?
Over the course of the past year and a half, I have lived very simply with few possessions, while volunteering and traveling Central America. The one thing I would have sorely missed was a guitar. I always travel with a guitar. I love music and couldn't be without it!
Growing up, who did you look up to as your hero?
Right now, I look up to Michael Pollan. He is a great journalist who looks at hard issues from new viewpoints. He also leads life by example and follows his intuition.
When is the last time you said, "I Love You" to someone?
Last time I talked to my mom, two days ago...
Three adjectives that best describes you:
Musical, Honest and Friendly
Describe your personal style:
As of now, I like to think my style is classy but relaxed
Your favorite place you have travel to:
Monteverde, Costa Rica
Your favorite film and scene from the film:
Heartbreaker, A French Film starring Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis—Scene: When Romain Duris' charcater dance the entire Dirty Dancing dance with Vanessa Paradis' character
Your favorite sport:
Sport: To play, basketball...to watch, soccer
Team: Liverpool
Player: Steven Gerrard
If there's a destination or item you would recommend us to check out or visit about your native country/city or town, what would you recommend?
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania—I traveled a lot so it is not really a place in Pennsylvania. It is instead a property on the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada, just outside of Saskatoon, where I helped good friends build a log cabin.
If you were given a indie cable show, which song would you choose as your opening theme song? What type of show would it be?
It would be a variety show full of music, cooking, good stories and interviews with friends and interesting people around the world! The theme song would be an original composition I have yet to compose.
Your wish for the remainder of 2013 and the new year?
I would wish for the ability to shape-shift!

Clothing: Vintage leather jacket, embroidered pea coat and hooded blazer, all by Jean Paul Gaultier; t-shirt by Osklen; plaid print shirt and sweater, both Simon's own
