MASTER'S CLASS|MATT MASTERSON PART 1

———————————————————————
IN CONVERSATION|MATT MASTERSON

Name|Matthew Thomas Masterson
Age|23
Hometown|San Diego, California

How did you get discovered?
I was introduced to my mother agent, David Souze, through a mutual friend of ours. He saw potential in me and decided to give me a shot! My first test shoot was with photographer Jamie Luca and I've been involved with this modeling career ever since!
What were you doing prior to modeling?
Before modeling, my life was pretty simple. I was in high school concentrating on my studies and sports. I was preparing to head to UCLA for college while splitting my time between water polo and volleyball. I was a two-sport athlete and would divide my year n half for each. Modeling began as more of a hobby than anything else, but here I am four years later and still involved.
People would be surprised to know that I...
on my very first time attending a professional hockey game was one of the most memorable sporting events in my life. About halfway through the first period, as I was finding my seat, a hockey puck flew into the stands and struck  me in the head. I was out for about ten minutes and ended up being five but it was  a pretty shocking event for my introduction to the sport. And for the record, I have been back to a few games since, so I'm not scarred for life!
What's your latest obsession?
My obsession in life right now  would have to be the Game of Thrones series. I borrowed the first book from a friend and didn't stop reading until I finished the last one that's been released. I only got involved because everyone would obsess over the show and finally convinced me to check it out. I fell in love right away and become one of the many who recommends the series to anyone who hasn't read or seen it.
Your most prize possession?
My most prized possession  would be a  St. Christopher medal my mom gave me when I first started modeling. St. Christopher is the patron saint of suffers and traveling according to the Catholic faith. She gave it to me as a way to protect me during my travels. So far it s done its job!
Growing up, who did you look up to as your hero?
My grandmother was always one of the biggest heroes. She is always so kind and warm to everyone she meets, and  her actions would leave a huge impression on me. She and my grandpa have taught me a lot about how to understand and relate to people. I am so fortunate to have her in my life!
When is the last time you said, "I Love You" to someone?
My last time saying "I love you" was to my parents. I talked to them earlier today when I was buying a blazer (see image). We have this system when I call home where they each hop on the phone so I can talk to them at the same time. It's great!
Three adjectives that best describes you:
Optimistic, Cheerful and Mindful
Describe your personal style:
My personal style is a mixture of Southern California surf culture and athletic gear. It's pretty typical for me to wear tank tops and skinny jeans or workout gear and hi-tops. I always have to have a few statement pieces on any outfit. It could be bright board shorts or an interesting necklace. I also love wearing crazy colorful socks!
Your favorite place you have travel to:
A place that I will always love visiting is Charlotte, North Carolina. A great friend of mine lives there and invited me out one summer. I typically live in a busy city (New York or Los Angeles), so it was amazing to travel to somewhere a little freer and open. I loved it there!
Your favorite film and scene from the film:
Zoolander—Growing up, I would always watch Zoolander with my sister. This is before I had ever thought or had an interest in modeling, It was our favorite movie and the absolute best scene is the gas station scene with the orange mocha frappachinos. I even threw a Zoolander themed birthday party my senior year of college!
If there's a destination or item you would recommend us to check out or visit about your native country/city or town, what would you recommend?
San Diego, California—We would definitely go to a local taco shop and get a California burritos. Without a doubt, it is the best representation of San Diego!
If you were given a indie cable show, which song would you choose as your opening theme song?
Something by Modest Mouse or something by Artic Monkeys
Ideally, I would want them to work with me to create a unique song for the show. I loved their music and styles. I would really enjoy working with either bands! I hope the show will become a reality!
Favorite moment in modeling:
My favorite moment in modeling  is when I first begin each shoot. The energy is high, nothing's been done before and the potential for the day is endless. It creates in me an excitement and reminds me how much I enjoy being in front of the camera!
Your wish for the remaining of 2013?
My wish for the rest of the year would be to make New York more of a home. It's still new to me and while I don't want the excitement  of the newness to wear off, I want it to be more  familiar. That, and to show off the city to friends and family!
