Name|James Boland
Hometown|Staten Island, New York

How did you get discovered?
I was walking home from acting class in Union Square. Dave Fortegill, my agent came up to me and brought me into the office. I really want to have something cool to show my future grandkids and I cannot think of anything cooler than getting into modeling!
What were you doing prior to modeling?
I was in school to study to become an actor. I was lucky. It was an easy transition since a lot of same skills are required.
People would be surprised to know that I...
can solve rubik's cube in two minutes. I can make didgeridoos. I can put both legs behind my head. I cried when I watch The Notebook. I knit scarves for people I really care about. I want to hike the Appalachian Trail.
What's your latest obsession?
The outdoors. Only recently, I just started reading the book, "Call Of The Wild" by Jack London and I picked up backpacking equipment. I'm preparing to someday walk from NY to California, reading every night in my tent. I also just became obsessed with "Robyn". She just so damn fierce!
Your most prize possession?
The hat my grandma knitted me before she passed. Wearing her hats was a way for me to not only tell her, but show her I loved her. I never saw her happier than the day I walked into her house wearing it. I will wear it until it falls apart. To this day, I am always wearing a beanie.
Growing up, who did you look up to as your hero?
Two actors: Arnold Schwarzenegger  (The Terminator) and Zach Galligan (Gremlins). I spend hours in the mirror pretending to be them. It's because of them that I'm an actor today. And I had the fortune of having Zach as my teacher at NYU Drama. It brought everything back full circle!
When is the last time you said, "I Love You" to someone?
My dad. He helped me for hours on a project when he had work early in the morning. He's a great man. Also, I am about to tell my girlfriend for the first time, so....shhh! :)
Three adjectives that best describes you:
Passionate, Playful and Stubborn
Describe your personal style:
My personal style changes with what I'm feeling. When I am playful, I am wearing bright, bold colors. When I am feeling classy, I like to dress dapper. Lately, I am into the mountain man mood, so I've been wearing lots of plaid & I've been sporting a beard. Doesn't matter where I am going. I dress the way I feel.
Your favorite place you have travel to:
Italy, I hated it while I was there. (Don't ask me why, I am not even sure!) but everyday, I miss it more. I will just have to go back and revisit.
Your favorite film and scene from the film:
Into The Wild—I see so many parallels between my life and his. We have the same interest and passions. We both just graduated college and are starting a new phase in life. I learned a lot from the character and the film. "Happiness isn't real unless shared"—Christopher John McCandless
If there's a destination or item you would recommend us to check out or visit about your native country/city or town, what would you recommend?
Staten Island, New York—I have a secret spot at a beach in Staten Island that I go to. A girl once took me there during a rough time in my life. It's my proof that Staten Island isn't as bad as everyone said it is...
If you were given a indie cable show, which song would you choose as your opening theme song?
My show would consists of entirely people completely disobey social constructs. Things people do in order to not be seen as weird. For example, they walked into a grocery store and take items out of other people's carts. Nobody bought anything so who is to say is yours! The theme song would have to be written by David Bryne.
Your wish for the remainder of 2014?
Power over myself. We are our own hardest obstacle. Our happiness is based on own opinions. Everyone thinks there's an object that makes them happy, but they're wrong. The ability to tell yourself to be stronger, more forgiving, more understanding, then actually become that. That's the wish every genie's been waiting for.
