IN CONVERSATION|CHAD GUTHRIE
Hometown|Charlotte, North Carolina
How did you get discovered?
I was mowing my lawn shirtless...my next door neighbor's girlfriend saw me and told me to go see an agency! One thing led to another...
What were you doing prior to modeling?
Before modeling, I was teaching Chinese exchange students how to speak English and also attending college too!
People would be surprised to know that I...
have a very specific daily routine of reading the New Yorker magazine in the sauna. If I miss a day in the sauna, or worse, forget my magazine, I am distraught! My family are all engineers and I am major in engineering too.
What's your latest obsession?
Honey. I love trying new types of honey and buy local honey from every place I visit. Don't tell US customs!
Your most prize possession?
Small diary where I record a short snippet from each calendar day over the course of five years of my life. I am on my fifth year now and each night I get to look back and see what I was doing on March 19 for the past four years.
Growing up, who did you look up to as your hero?
Don't have anyone in particular. I instead would draw one trait from several people and hope to combine those into one superhero. (Not that kind of superhero that you come to think of though.)
When is the last time you said, "I Love You" to someone?
My mother before stepping on the train to move to NYC! The last time I said it romantically was to a girlfriend before stepping on a plane to move to Thailand.
Three adjectives that best describes you:
Eclectic, Curious and Excitable
Describe your personal style:
Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia...It's a gorgeous beach town famous for surfing that has a soul-soothing vibe. There's a drum circle that jams every evening above the beach at sunset. Talk about bliss!
Your favorite place you have travel to:
Mae Hong Son, Thailand
Your favorite film and scene from the film:
I enjoyed watching sports over movies but if I have to choose I will say it is V for Vendetta. I also love the battle scene in The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King
Your favorite sport:
Player: Marshall Plumlee—He is my favorite is because he looks like he is trying so dang hard every possession. He has an endearing amount of clumsiness too!
If there's a destination or item you would recommend us to check out or visit about your native country/city or town, what would you recommend?
Charlotte, North Carolina—I love being able to be the ambassador to people who are visiting where I am from. If you were to come to Charlotte, North Carolina, I'd take you to Romare Bearden Park in uptown, where we could admire the rapid growing Charlotte skyline, because the vistas in the wilderness and overlooks in cities are my favorite places in the world to see and feel.
If you were given a indie cable show, what type of show would it be?
My show would be about people (individuals, couples or families) who has never travelled much away from tehir homes and link them up with similar people in a different country, where they will have to cooperate to complete tasks. Hopefully they will learn something about the commonality of human experience along the way.
Craziest thing you ever done:
Swing off a cliff in Australia. My friend and I happened upon a couple of guys setting up ropes along a 150-200 feet cliff over the Pacific Ocean. They were jumping off, essentially making a giant rope swing, lowering to the rocks below, then scaling back up the cliff face. I decided to jump with these random, unofficial guys without ever learning their names. We survived!
Your wish for 2016?
Fluent in Spanish at the snap of my fingers or fluent in all languages!
