IN CONVERSATION|SEAN BARNES
How did you get discovered?
I was always interested in modeling and when the opportunity came for me to do so, I went to Vancouver and met with Jorge Ramos, who is now my agent.
What were you doing prior to modeling?
I attended a boarding school in Vancouver Island, Canada. When I wasn't studying, I took every opportunity I can get and travel to the world's most exotic locations!
People would be surprised to know that I...
am pretty geeky at times. I will attend lectures by famous physicists and keep up to date with future tech. It's funny when people tried that out too, their expressions are golden.
What's your latest obsession?
Traveling by far one of my greatest obsessions. Not ordinary traveling by which you stay at luxury hotel but to get out of your comfort zone and stay in local village in some third world country and experimenting all you couldn't have at home.
Your most prize possession?
When I traveled to Sri Lanka a few years back, I worked at a local school where I had a strong connection with the local children. When I left, I asked them to give me a drawing of their family with their home address. I still have them and I am going to hold on to them until I see them again.
Growing up, who did you look up to as your hero?
Leonardo DiVinci, he was always his original self no matter what people told him how he should change. His creativity is what I admired most about him.
When is the last time you said, "I Love You" to someone?
My good friend, Adrian back in Vancouver. We've known each other for eight years now and he is always been one of the closest people I have in my life.
Three adjectives that best describes you:
Adventurous, Creative and Energized
Describe your personal style:
I always buy clothes that are not trendy. I never wear hats but I love wearing black and it goes with everything.
Your favorite place you have travel to:
I've always believed places can never be compare by beauty, but the Isles of the South Pacific are mesmerizing.
Your favorite film and scene from the film:
The Prestige—Scene: The ending scene left me in shock for like three days
Your favorite sport:
Sport: Rugby—I love the intensity and the brutality of it.
If there's a destination or item you would recommend us to check out or visit about your native country/city or town, what would you recommend?
Vancouver, Canada—I would take you to this beautiful place called the Princess Louise inlet north of Vancouver. It's absolutely stunning and I would hike the mountains with you and stargaze.
If you were given a indie cable show, what type of show would it be?
It would be a Sci-Fi comedy show in which each episode tells its own story and it is unrelated to any of the others in the series.
Craziest thing you ever done:
This one time in Thailand, I decided to test myself in kayak to an island 10 miles away. I got to the island in the evening but had run out of water. It took four hours to arrive there and the way back took even longer, as the wind was blowing in my face, with waves big enough to knock me out of the boat. It was scary, at times, I felt I wouldn't be able to make it back but I did. When I return to shore, I was so exhausted. The local villagers thought I was crazy to make that trek.
Your wish for the remainder of 2016?
I would like to wish for a new Cannon 5D Mark III camera. A lot of the stuff I love to do revolves around film and photography.
