IN CONVERSATION|ALEX SUAREZ
Hometown|Redbank, New Jersey
How did you get discovered?
I got into modeling by chance, it's always been in the back of my mind to pursue and get into modeling but I never got a chance to until my amazing agent, Dave Fothergill approached me. I feel as I got into modeling naturally rather than putting an effort into it.
What were you doing prior to modeling?
I was in training to becomes a EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and shopping for new clothing looks in Soho and DSM (Dover Street Market) frequently. Hanging out with friends and finding places to eat.
People would be surprised to know that I...
The reason behind why I want to be EMT, my dad is in the field and I want to save the lives of teens and young adults struggling with addiction and knock some sense into young drug addicts before it is too late!
What's your latest obsession?
Clothing brand names of street wear and hip hop artists. The brands all have their own aesthetic and vibe and that's what drawn them to my attention in the first place. I hope someday I would be able to create my own clothing line so that I can inspire the next generation of hip hop culture.
Your most prize possession?
My pendant on my chain. It's a crucifix on an anchor which signifies keeping me grounded. My father wears the same one but bigger and he is my main influence in life and he raised me. Although I am not religious, I believe in a higher power. I believe that it is very important to believe in yourself and knowing who I am as a individual.
Growing up, who did you look up to as your hero?
My father was my hero. He was a single parent parent and raised me by myself and I am more than grateful for him. Besides my father, of course would be numerous musicians in the genre "nu metal" such as Korn, Slipknot and Limp Bizkit. The dark, aggressive lyrics and heavy sounds really gave me the style and attitude I still carry with me today. Additionally, Jonathan Davis, Corey Taylor and Wes Borland.
When is the last time you said, "I Love You" to someone?
My girlfriend, Emma...I love you!
Three adjectives that best describes you:
Intuitive, Inspired, Irregular
Describe your personal style:
My style is very eclectic I would say, I dress how I want. I have a "I don't give a fuck" facial expression all through high school. I was very into dark music growing up and horror movies so that's where it branches out from, I guess. Also, the crowd I was growing up and the reckless things I did as a teen goes with it too.
Your favorite place you have travel to:
Your favorite film and scene from the film:
The Wackness—Scene: When he saves his psychologist from committing suicide on a beach after taking a lot of drugs.
Tyler Grosso,Jeremy Scott and Virgil Abloh from Off-White
If there's a destination or item you would recommend us to check out or visit about your native country/city or town, what would you recommend?
Redbank, New Jersey—I will take you to the park down the street, Bodman Park.
If you were given a indie cable show, what type of show would it be? Which song would you choose as your theme song?
If I have a tv show for an hour, I would showcase a day of my life in Soho, New York goofing off, pranking people and making people uncomfortable for the awkward humor, much like the Eric Andre Show. Theme song: That's Not Me by Skepta
Craziest thing you ever done:
Lived in a favela in Ecuador for a week without being able to speak Spanish. My 80 years old grandmother only spoke a small fraction of english, she was the only one that I can hardly converse with.
Your wish for the remainder of 2016?
What life on earth 1000 years after my life is over...
